Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 22W West of Highway 99W

The investigation by Oregon State Police crash reconstructionists, with the assistance of some interagency members of the Willamette Crash Team, is continuing into a fatal traffic crash that occurred late Thursday afternoon on Highway 22W west of Highway 99W.
 
On December 21, 2006 at approximately 4:50 p.m., a 1999 Nissan Sentra driven by FRANCISCA SANTIAGA GALVEZ, age 49, from Salem, was eastbound on Highway 22W near milepost 10 when it was struck head-on by a westbound 1996 Ford F150 pickup driven by ERIC STEPHEN LOFTON, age 21, from Mt. Angel. Preliminary invesigation indicates the Ford pickup crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane. Two other vehicles, a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a Chevrolet pickup towing a utility trailer, were also involved but no one was injured and they were driven from the scene.
 
GALVEZ was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraint use for all occupants is not available.
 
Two female passengers in the Nissan were injured. Right front passenger TOMASA EMILIA CASTRO, age 51, from Salem, was transported by LifeFlight to Oregon Health Sciences University where she remains in critical condition. ISIDRA ORBELINA ZETINO, age 45, from Salem, was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital with serious injuries.
 
LOFTON was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital with serious injuries. His passenger, BRANDON STOCKING, age 17, from Hubbard, was reported to not be injured.
 
Highway 22W remains closed and a detour was established by ODOT personnel. The highway was reopened around midnight.
