A Corvallis-area woman died early Wednesday morning from injuries sustained in a Tuesday night two-vehicle crash on Highway 99W north of Corvallis.
On November 26, 2007, at approximately 5:45 p.m., a 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer was towing an empty 12-foot flatbed trailer southbound on Highway 99W near milepost 80. The trailer became detached from the vehicle, crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2003 Acura RSX.
The operator of the Acura, CHERYL JEAN JOHNSON, age 55, from Corvallis, suffered critical injuries and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. She was wearing safety restraints and the vehicle's airbags deployed. JOHNSON died early Wednesday morning from her sustained injuries.
The operator of the Trail Blazer, JOHN M. CAUDLE, age 23, from Eugene, was not injured. His two passengers were also not injured.
One lane of the highway was reopened shortly after the collision and traffic was flagged through the scene by the Oregon Department of Transportation. The highway was completely reopened at 9:20 p.m.
Troopers from the Albany Area Command of the Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation. Assistance at the scene was provided by ODOT, the Benton County Sheriff's Office, the Corvallis Police Department, and the Corvallis Fire Department.
